Each year, the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) program provides an encouraging snapshot of the dedication and hard work of Rowan County students and this year, the numbers are something to celebrate! As of the end of the 2023-24 school year, Rowan County students have been awarded a remarkable $700,000 in scholarship funding through KEES. This milestone reflects the collective commitment of our students to their academic goals and the investment that KEES makes in Kentucky's future.
The KEES program, funded by the Kentucky Lottery, awards scholarships based on students' GPAs and ACT scores, enabling them to pursue post-secondary education with financial support. For Rowan County, the annual KEES report reminds us of how well our students are doing and the substantial assistance they receive toward college costs. This funding alleviates the financial burden on students and their families and recognizes the academic efforts that make Rowan County students stand out.
Rowan County School officials and community members encourage students and families to take pride in this accomplishment, recognizing that every dollar awarded is a testament to our students' dedication. This recognition also serves as a motivator for younger students to set their academic sights high, knowing that hard work can lead to financial support for college.
“We are incredibly proud of our students and their achievements,” a Rowan County school representative shared. “This $700,000 in KEES funding is more than a number—it’s a celebration of each student’s commitment to excellence. We can’t wait to see what they’ll accomplish next!”
Congratulations to all Rowan County students for their hard work and success! Let’s continue to support and celebrate the academic accomplishments that shape our community’s future.

Lindsay Johnson, a devoted English teacher at Rowan County Senior High School (RCSHS), has been awarded a place in the prestigious Kentucky Innovative Learning Network (KY ILN) 2024-2025 Innovative Teacher Fellowship program. The fellowship, an initiative of the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) in partnership with local school districts, recognizes top educators across the state for their dedication to transforming classroom experiences and advancing innovative educational practices. Johnson is one of only ten teachers selected from a highly competitive pool, chosen for her exceptional commitment to student-centered learning.
The KY ILN fellowship empowers educators to design transformative learning experiences, foster educational innovation, and promote a shared vision under the KDE’s United We Learn framework. Through three guiding principles—creating vibrant learning experiences, driving innovation, and building strong community partnerships—the fellowship supports Johnson and her cohort in envisioning a new future for Kentucky’s students. RCSHS Principal Jordan Mann expressed his pride, saying, “I am very proud of Lindsay and glad we have her at RCSHS. She is a great teacher who always strives to do what is best for her students and our school. Mrs. Johnson is an innovative teacher who understands the needs of her students."
Reflecting on her selection, Johnson said, “In my thirteenth year of teaching, I’m thrilled to collaborate with the nine other educators chosen by KDE. This fellowship will allow me to bring back fresh, innovative strategies to Rowan County, enriching lessons, activities, and assessments across all levels. Rowan County students deserve engaging and challenging instruction, along with creative ways to showcase their learning and growth.”
Throughout the fellowship, Johnson will engage in professional learning sessions, collaborate with state education leaders, and lead projects designed to advance the learning goals of her school and district. The collective work of the KY ILN cohort will contribute to a forward-thinking, inclusive educational environment that serves the needs of students, educators, and the wider community across Kentucky.
