School Year: 2026-2027
Forms may be completed and emailed to whitney.watercutter@rowan.kyschools.us or dropped off at the RCMS front office. You may also pick up a form from the RCMS to complete.
Nominations are open from May 10th until May 17th. All nominations must be received by May 17th, 2026 at midnight.
What is the School Council?
The school council is a group that helps make important decisions at our school, including how students are taught, how the school day is organized, school improvement planning, and after-school activities. The council includes:
- 2 parents
- 3 teachers
- 1 principal
Who Can Be Nominated?
To be nominated, the person must:
- Be a parent, stepparent, foster parent, or legal guardian of a student who will attend RCMS and be in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade during the council term of 2026-2027.
- Not be an employee of the school or district office or married to an employee of the school or district office
- Not be a member of the local school board or married to a board member

If elected, nominees must complete:
-Mandatory SBMD training in summer months
- A fingerprint-supported state and federal background check
- A child abuse and neglect registry check (CAN)

Rowan County Middle School is organizing a new election for the 24-25 school year Site Based Decision Making Council parent members to ensure that the process is conducted smoothly and fairly. Written nominations will be accepted at the school in person through August 29th with the election taking place in person on September 5th, 2024, from 7:30 am to 8:30 am and 5:00 pm to 6:00pm in the RCMS Lobby. As we will not be doing this process electronically, it will be important for parents/guardians of RCMS students to plan for this date accordingly. Absentee ballots will not be permitted.

TRANSPORTATION PRESS RELEASE As the Rowan County Board of Education begins the 2024-25 school year, we wanted to remind parents of the transportation changes for the year that were outlined in the letter sent home in April. 1. Elementary students will only be transported to the school in their attendance zone. Students who have been approved to attend a school out of district must provide their own transportation. 2. Students that require special transportation will be transported, however, we will not be providing transportation to siblings out of district on these buses. Siblings will be required to attend their home school, unless parents want to provide transportation and Rodburn Elementary has accepted them. 3. Daycares - Students will only be transported to and from daycares if they live in or have been approved to attend the school in the attendance zones assigned to those daycares. See below. a.
