NTI/Covid19 Info

NTI Instruction

Beginning Wednesday, April 1, 2020 any NTI packets or instructions for digital learning opportunities for our second session of NTI days that were not picked up at your child’s school will be delivered to your home by our transportation department. Completed packets for the first session of NTI days need to be completed and available for bus drivers to pick up at this time, or they can be dropped at your child’s school prior to April 6, 2020. If for some reason you need an alternative date/time to drop off completed packets, please contact your child’s school.

Your child’s teacher continues to be available for any questions about class work. They can be reached by email by using firstname.lastname@rowan.kyschools.us or click on Teacher website at the bottom of this page for a complete list of teachers and their contact information.

Meals

During the week of April 6th through the 10th the school system will be observing spring break. During this time, we will continue to offer free meals to be picked up between 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM, at McBrayer Elementary and Rodburn Elementary only. There will be no meals delivered during this week, however the family resource centers will be delivering snack packs to those on their list.

Following this week of spring break, we will resume providing pick up meals at all 4 elementary schools, but meal delivery service will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Thank you and stay safe!

UPDATE: SCHOOLS CLOSED UNTIL APRIL 17, CLASSES MAY RESUME APRIL 20

On Friday, March 20, 2020, Governor Andy Beshear spoke with Kentucky school superintendents across the Commonwealth and requested that all schools continue to be closed through April 17, 2020 to prevent further spread of COVID-19.  Classes may resume April 20, 2020.

Additional information about NTI student learning packets will be communicated at a later date.

Please continue to follow the guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) on the best ways to combat the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19):

  1. Wash hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds (the length of time it takes to sing Happy Birthday twice.)  If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  3. Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  4. Stay home when you are sick
  5. Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow or with a tissue.  (Make sure to properly dispose the tissue after use.)
  6. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

As this is a rapidly evolving situation, the faculty and staff of the Rowan County School System greatly appreciates the continued support of the Rowan County community.

Beginning March 16, 2020, and subject to change, meals for children from 1-18 years of age will be served, regardless of where they attend school, at each of the four elementary schools from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Those receiving meals must be present to be served.  Meals will be served as a “To-Go” meal that will be distributed in the bus loop of each elementary school, much like a drive-through. For those that are unable to pick up hot meals at the elementary schools each weekday, cold meals will be distributed on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday basis beginning on Wednesday, March 18th.  To make arrangements for this service, you must call the bus garage at 606-784-4908.

Those students who participate in the Backpack program will have NTI packet and meal deliveries made by the representatives from the schools’ Family Resource and Youth Services Centers throughout the next two weeks.

Also, please note that all extracurricular activities have been cancelled during the closure.  All athletic games and practices have been cancelled until April 12, 2020.

As this is a rapidly evolving situation, updates will be made available on the District website or through future School Messenger all-call messages.
