Dear Parents or Guardians of Rowan County Students,
The Rowan County Education Foundation was established five years ago to assist students and teachers with Arts Enrichment Activities and Programs. Teachers and students apply for mini-grants to bring more arts and humanities into the schools. This is a non-profit organization and the only means of funding these mini-grants is through fundraising.
As the construction continues on the new Rowan County Middle School, plans are being made for a brick walk to pay tribute to current and former students and staff of Rowan County Schools. When the Rowan County Schools Performing Arts Center was built, a wall of honor was created enabling people to purchase engraved bricks to commemorate a special person or event. A similar tribute is being planned at our new school.
The bricks, which will be at the entrance of the new building, will sell for $50 each and will be on display for years to come.
“I think it is significant that this tribute to people in our schools and community will be built out of bricks and mortar, just like our new school,” said Tresia Swain, principal of the Rowan County Middle School. “Just as our school will stand the test of time, these engraved bricks will be a tribute to our own living legacy – the staff, students and people of our community.”
For information on how to purchase an engraved brick for the RCMS tribute walkway, please call Rowan County Schools Central Office, 606-784-8928, and ask for Nadine Griffith.
