On Thursday, November 9, 2017, Mary Beth Armstrong and James Hood, co-presidents of the Rowan County Education Association will host an informational meeting about Governor Bevin’s suggested pension reforms and their impact on teachers as well as other public service employees.  Kentucky Senator Steven West, who represents Rowan County, has agreed to attend the meeting as well as discuss some of the reforms plans that have been offered.

James Hood, RCEA co-president stated, “The current plans that have been offered will have an impact on all certified and classified personnel – new, veteran and retired employees.  It is vital that we have as many staff members, public service employees, and anyone else who could be negatively affected by these plans to attend this meeting.  We’ve spoken with Rep. Rocky Adkins when we had another meeting at Rodburn in October.  Now we have the opportunity to address our concerns face-to-face with Senator West.”

Superintendent Marvin Moore also shared a link (below) from Tom Shelton, Executive Director of the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents, outlining the Shared Responsibility Plan that was developed through a collaborative effort by the Kentucky Education Association, Jefferson County Teachers Association, Kentucky Association of School Administrators, Kentucky School Board Association, and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association.

“Tom Shelton has worked VERY hard to stop what seemed to be an inevitable passage of the Governor’s pension reform a few weeks ago.  I have to give him a lot of credit for stopping that from happening,” said Marvin Moore.  “We ALL have to be on the same page for the benefit of our students, our teachers, our staff, and public education.”
