Block Party Event for Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts

In collaboration with the city of Ashland, Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road will host their FIRST-EVER BLOCK PARTY event on Friday, September 5, 2014 for girls and adult volunteers to join Girl Scouts.  The block party fun begins at 207 16th Street in downtown Ashland and expands up to Winchester.  The block party is a family-friendly, FREE event! Festivities begin at 5 pm and will run until 8 pm.  There will be a LIVE band, car shows, bounce houses, art walks, make-it/take-it crafts and door prizes.  Girl Scouts will also demonstrate and share several of their program opportunities—from anti-bullying, healthy living and STEM Robotics.   There will also be samples of your favorite Girl Scout cookies and chocolate nut items from their Fall Product sale.

The BLOCK PARTY EVENT will not only be a fun time for families and members of the community, but it is a great opportunity to learn more about Girl Scouting and how Girl Scouts gives girls a place to explore topics of interest in a judgment-free space outside of classroom confinements; it cultivates and self-directed learning, as well as the growth mindset (the understanding that intelligence and talent can be developed)—all of which help foster a lifetime passion for learning. Learn how to help girls stop bullying in its’ tracks through KDVA and Girl Scouts’ anti-bullying Green Dot for Girl Scouts or Be A Friend (BFF) program designed especially for girls!  Or, help mentor girls as they learn how to build and program a robot through one of our many STEM programs!

Girl Scouts is open to all girls from kindergarten through grade 12. The more adults that step forward to volunteer as a troop leader, the more girls will get the chance to be involved in a traditional Girl Scout troop. Adults over age 18 may become volunteers; both girls and adults volunteers can join at any time of the year. Girl Scout volunteers come from all walks of life; they are men, women, young professionals, retirees, college students, and more. To join or volunteer, please visit: and click on Online Registration.  If you need more information about becoming an adult volunteer, please contact Cindi Griffith at or by calling 606-325-2111.
