I can read, comprehend, and discuss elements of a short story.
Independent Work – establishing engagement (8-10 minutes):
Daily grammar: From Non-Negotiable Skills(on overhead—students write on own paper)
Correct answers on overhead—Mini lesson over unfamiliar items (page 266-267)
Students make corrections
Guiding Purpose – fostering engagement (3-5 minutes):
Review of learning target procedures
Interactive Instruction and Authentic Engagement – deepening understanding (25-40 minutes):
·         Vocabulary from ACT Book Lesson # 7“Antarctic Exploration”
Discuss new vocabulary words (bolded words in text)
                Students read story noting bolded words---Match words and definitions of first part (5 minutes)
Students pick a buddy- compare answers –go over discussing correct answers—correct as we go.
Guided Practice:

·         Begin reading passage for post break assessment ” The Last Boast” (copies)
