The family of Rowan County Schools welcomes you to Rowan County, Kentucky!  The Rowan County School system has a long history of quality education and graduating excellent students, a pattern which continues into the 21st century.
Each school in the Rowan County School District is unique, not only due to its excellent faculty and staff, but also due to the wonderful students and their families who make up an integral part of each school.  We know that you are concerned about the quality of education the children of Rowan County will receive now and in years to come.  Whether you have a child in one of our schools or are a member of the Rowan County community, you are partners with the Rowan County School system.

Rowan County Schools Mission Statement

Nestled in the mountains at the edge of eastern Kentucky, Rowan County Schools have been serving the people of Rowan County since 1901. The Rowan County School System is made up of six schools--four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school, all of which are fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Each school is unique not only due to its excellent faculty and staff, but also due to the wonderful students and their families which make up an integral part of each school. 

Rowan County was formed in 1856 as Kentucky's 104th county from parts of Morgan County and Fleming County. It was named for John Rowan, a Kentucky member of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. www.moreheadrowan.org

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 286 square miles (741 km2), of which 281 square miles (728 km2) is land and 5 square miles (13 km2) is water. Its highest Point is "Limestone Knob" at about 1,409 feet (429 m) above mean sea level.
