It's time once again for the annual Artsbridge National Art Contest, formerly known as the Immanuel Project.  Every year our young ladies at MYDC participate in the national contest under the direction of Suszanne Jones, MYDC paraprofessional.  Our students have entered award winning paintings and have been recognized each year since the contest was initially started.

Please show your support to the MYDC school and Lady Monarchs by going online and participating in the VOTING process.  Just go to the link provided and VOTE!  HTTP://MYARTSBRIDGE.ORG   Follow the prompts.  Encourage your friends and family to go and vote for MYDC students too.

  • Certified copy of birth certificate
  • Up-to-date immunization record including the new Hepatitis A vaccine

  • Eye exam (must be performed by an optometrist or ophthalmologist)
  • All of these must be on the appropriate forms.  

Kindergarten registration will be held at the Rowan County Board of Education in the cafeteria.

Entry fee:  $10 per family which is used to pay for trophies and rating fees.  

Eligibility:  Kindergarten to twelfth grade and membership in United States Chess Federation (USCF).  You may join the USCF online at https://new.uschess.org/home/ or during registration.  The Rowan County Chess Club offers a $3 discount on USCF memberships (cash only).

Class trophies - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in K-3, K-8, and K-12

The Rowan County Chess Club is giving chess sets to two lucky participants.*

United States Chess Federation (USCF) rules will apply.  This tournament is rated.

Chess sets and clocks will be provided.

USCF tournament directors are Leonard Gay and Gene White.

Tournament hosted by the Rowan County Chess Club.

  • February 3: Online Shopping
    This course is designed to teach patrons how to identify and conduct safe online purchases, with a focus on privacy protection, safe browsing and buying, and an effective understanding of commonsense market practices such as buyer reviews and seller ratings. Appropriate for all ages, but aimed primarily at adults and seniors.
  • Feb 10: Resume Writing
    A program meant to teach patrons how to compose and maintain an effective career resume, with a focus on services offered by or available through the library, such as the Cypress Resume app. Intended for teens through seniors.
  • Feb 17: Digital Research
    This class is intended to educate patrons on how to perform effective online and digital research, assisted and unassisted, with a focus on services offered by or available through the library. Appropriate for all ages, but aimed primarily at teens through seniors.
  • Feb 24: Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) Services
    Presentation on database services available from the Kentucky Virtual Library through RCPL. Includes explanations of EBSCO, WorldCat, LexisNexis, and more with the intent to familiarize patrons in their use and teach confidence in accessing these services. Appropriate for all ages, but aimed primarily at teens through seniors.
  • March 3: Libby Application
    Libby is the friendly new app from the makers of OverDrive, which allows patrons to access thousands of digital titles. RCPL is proud to support Libby and to offer this course on how patrons can download and use it to quickly and easily start borrowing from our broad catalog of ebooks and audiobooks. Appropriate for all ages.
