Gonzalez-Napoleoni, Bonney named Mr. and Miss RCSHS 2019

Each year the faculty and staff of Rowan County Senior High School select a group of seniors who have been exemplary in leadership, character, service and academics throughout their high school academic and extracurricular/co-curricular careers.  These students must have outstanding GPAs, be a visible leader in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, and consistently demonstrate good behavior.  This year ten students were presented on the court of the RCSHS gymnasium on January 30, 2019 between the Boys’ Varsity and Girls’ Varsity basketball games.  Of those ten students, Angel Gonzalez-Napoleoni and Katie Bonney were awarded the prestigious honor of being named Mr. and Miss RCSHS 2019.

 

Angel Gonzalez-Napoleoni is the son of Wilson Gonzalez-Espada and Rosita Napoleoni-Milan.  Angel is a member of the movie club.  His favorite class taken at RCSHS is psychology because it was the most discussion and thought-based class he had ever taken. After graduation, Angel plans to take his general education requirements at Morehead State University before finishing a bachelor’s degree in visual arts at the University of Cincinnati.

 

Katie Bonney, daughter of Steve and Tammy Bonney, is a 6-year member of the tennis team, 2-year president of the Student Government Association and captain of the Academic Team.  Her favorite class taken at RCSHS is AP US History because she loves challenging classes with an emphasis on how we are connected to our past and how it informs our future.  After graduation, Katie plans to pursue a degree in Museum Studies at Middlebury College after which she wants to work as a Museum Education Director.

 

The other eight candidates who were nominated, along with Angel and Katie, for the title of Mr. and Miss RCSHS 2019 were, in alphabetical order:

 

Carmen Alderman, daughter of Janet and Buster Alderman, is a 4-year member of the soccer team, 2-year member of the swim team, and 2-year member of the National Honor Society.  Her favorite class taken at RCSHS is Anatomy and Physiology because she got to dissect different parts of the body and watch several surgeries.  After graduation, Carmen plans to major in biology at the University of Kentucky and go on to medical school to specialize in radiology.

 

Hannah Clatos is the daughter of Ron and Angie Clatos.  Hannah is President and Regional Vice President of the FFA, as well as a member of the National Honor Society and Art Club.  Her favorite class taken at RCSHS was Plant and Land Science because when she took it as a freshman, it forced her out of her comfort zone and allowed her to discover the FFA and leadership along with lifelong friendships. Hannah plans to attend Morehead State University to major in Agribusiness, and then further her knowledge of agriculture in graduate school.

 

Matthew Gagliano is the son of Shannon Malone and Joe Gagliano. Matthew is a member of the baseball and soccer teams, the RCSHS Y-Club as well as a participant in the Morehead State University Dual Credit Program.  Matthew’s favorite class taken at RCSHS was AP Biology because biology is his favorite subject and it challenged him.  Matthew plans to pursue a pre-veterinary program at Morehead State University.

 

Zayda Greene is the daughter of Brandy Breeze and Dave Breeze.  Zayda is captain of the volleyball team, a member of the National Honor Society and a Rowan County Distinguished Young Woman 1st Runner-Up.  Her favorite class taken at RCSHS is AP Studio Art because Mr. Ratcliff has always inspired her to complete everything in life to its full potential.  He has also given her the ability to have a new perspective on her life through art.  After graduation, Zayda plans to attend Morehead State University or the University of Louisville to major in pre-medicine to become a dermatologist and one day open her own practice in Morehead.

 

Andrew “A. J.” Hacker, the son of Scott and Kim Hacker. AJ is a member of the baseball and soccer teams, the RCSHS Y-club and a participant in the MSU Dual Credit program.  His favorite class taken at RCSHS was Coach Evan’s Male Athletes class because it taught him how to grow from a boy to a man as well as the ways of iron and pain.  After graduation, AJ plans to attend Morehead State University to play baseball with an undecided major.

 

Angela Marcum is the daughter of Kevin and Melissa Marcum.  Angela is a member of varsity basketball, cross-country & track along with the National Honor Society.  Her favorite class taken at RCSHS is Anatomy and Physiology because she loves the content and Mrs. Melissa Jenkins made it challenging and engaging. Angela plans to major in Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner at an undecided college. 

 

Nick Menard is the son of Mike and Vanessa Menard.  Nick is a member of the football and bowling teams, National Honor Society and Kentucky Youth Association.  Nick’s favorite classes at RCSHS were Pre-Calculus and Chemistry because he loves math and science, and, his awesome teachers were a bonus.   After graduation, Nick plans to attend Morehead State University to get his bachelors of Science degree in nursing, and then return for two more years to get a nurse anesthetist degree.

 

Charles Whelan, the son of Rhonda and Rick Whelan. Charlie is a member of the soccer team, Morehead State University Dual Credit Program and Leader of the RCSHS student section.  His favorite class taken at RCSHS is US History with Scooter Charles because he got a lot done and had a lot of fun while doing it.  After graduation, Charlie plans to attend Morehead State University with an undecided major.
