Genny Jenkins, the coordinator/teacher for Gifted and Talented Education with Rowan County Schools, has received a two-year appointment to the Kentucky Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education. Mrs. Jenkins was one of thirteen people from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky to be appointed by the Office of the Governor to serve on the Advisory Council.
“I can’t think of a finer person to be appointed to the Kentucky Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education,” said Supt. Marvin Moore. “Genny Jenkins is a hard-working individual who always is looking for ways to challenge students and expand their horizons. I know that she will work just as hard as a member of the Advisory Council as she does here in the Rowan County School District.”
After receiving word of her appointment to the Advisory Council, Genny Jenkins remarked, “I was extremely honored to be asked to apply for membership to the Council by the Kentucky Association for Gifted and Talented Education. I’m looking forward to representing my fellow gifted education coordinators and teachers as an advocate for gifted students throughout the state.”
As a member of the 19-member Council, Mrs. Jenkins and her fellow members will make recommendations regarding the provisions and services for gifted and talented students in Kentucky’s education system. The Kentucky Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education is comprised of four teachers representing elementary, middle and high schools; four parents, two of whom have children who have been identified as gifted and talented and one who serves or has served on a school council; three members from the postsecondary level, with one representing an independent college or university; one superintendent; two principals with one from either the elementary or middle school level and another from the high school level; two district-level coordinators of Gifted and Talented services; one local school board member; one individual who represents the visual and performing arts; and one member representing the business community.
